Small groups are gatherings of five to twenty people where study and conversation allow for deeper reflection
on spiritual issues. In the intimate setting of a small group, questions can be asked, opinions shared, and ideas
debated in a safe, respectful way. Small groups give people a place to share their journey and learn from the
journey of others. Check out the many different small groups that meet at MCC and see if one is where you
might fit in?
Berea is one of the longest meeting small groups at
Merriam Christian Church.
Berea is mentioned in the book of Acts in the Bible. It
is a small city on the eastern side of Vermion
Mountains where Paul preached, and where the
people examined the Scriptures to see if his preaching
was true (Acts 17:10–13).
The group numbers around 15 people on most Sunday
mornings. Most of the folks attending are seniors with
a wealth of experience and knowledge. The class has
two teachers: Rex, a retired minister, and Eddie, a lay
The Berea group is studying lessons from the Standard
Publishing NIV quarterly. The group uses the Bible to
clarify and expound on the scripture offered through
the prepared lessons.
